Xugana Island Lodge
Okavango Delta Accommodation - Okavango Delta National Park - Okavango Delta Lodges

Xugana Island Lodge is situated in the heart of the Okavango Delta, nestling under a canopy of wild ebony and garcina trees facing onto the blue waters and tranquillity of Xugana Lagoon. Xugana reflects the timeless pace of a bygone Africa, when the bushman would drink from the promised waters of the Xugana lagoon after a long and tiring hunt. Activities include birding, seasonal fishing, boating, mokoro excursions and island walks accompanied by highly qualified and experienced guides. For the less energetic there is a swimming pool, which is submerged in the reeds on the banks of the lagoon.
The lounge, bar and dining areas are set back under the Fig and Leadwood tree canopy in open sided thatched areas. The swimming pool, located amongst the mature gardens in the center of the island, is a perfect place to relax. Xugana is renowned for its unique dinner venues, all al fresco, on the island.
Xugana Island Lodge accommodates just 16 guests in large raised reed and thatch chalets situated on the shaded fringe of the island, each with a lagoon view through the lagoon-side vegetation.
The recently refurbished chalets have twin or double beds, en-suite facilities with walk in showers, overhead fans and a private deck.
Mokoro trips in eco-friendly dugout canoes, combined with walking, to surrounding lagoons and islands in the concession give guests the chance to experience a classic Delta safari. Bird-watching opportunities are outstanding, and fishing for bream and tiger fish is also offered as an activity at the lodge.
Resident species include Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Hippo, Giraffe, Hyena, Zebra, Kudu, Red Lechwe, Sable and Roan Antelope and many more. Birdwatching is excellent throughout the year.
Guided nature walks to the Delta's islands afford an opportunity to track the larger species that inhabit this wilderness area. The water wilderness of the Okavango Delta is rich in bird and wildlife species. The elusive Sitatunga Antelope has found its niche in the wetland ecosystem, birds such as the African Fish Eagle, Pel`s Fishing Owl and many others are magnificent in their spectacular display - for the ornithologist a bird paradise.
