Laroo le tau - Makgadikgadi Accommodation - Makgadikgadi Pans National Park - Makgadikgadi Lodges

Snaking its way across Botswana’s Kalahari Desert, the Boteti River is as old as the Kalahari itself. Until Laroo le tau - Makgadikgadi Accommodation - Makgadikgadi Pans National Park - Makgadikgadi Lodges30 000 years ago this area was an enormous inland sea that dried up with the diversion of the Zambezi and Kwando rivers due to seismic shifts in the area. Today the Boteti River is dependent on the level of flooding of the Kavango River and the Okavango delta and it experiences periods of drought and of plentiful water.

The enormous Makgadikgadi pan is also a remnant of an enormous lake fed by the waters of central Africa. These days the pan only fills in years of exceptional rainfall and the resultant flooding of the Boteti River.

Situated on top of twenty-metre cliff above the river, Leroo-La-Tau lodge is a fourteen bedded luxury tented camp within the Makgadikgadi National Park. Accommodation is based on the East African style Meru tents with en-suite facilities. The central lodge complex under thatch consists of a lounge, dining area, bar and curio shop.

Summer time on the Boteti is a birders paradise and the bush is green and verdant. The winter months feature large-scale migration of wildebeest and zebra in to the area with the attendant predators such as lion and cheetah.

Day and night vehicle safaris are a feature, together with walking safaris of the lodge activities. Visits to Nxai Pan, Baine’s baobabs and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve can also be arranged.
