This
itinerary offers the flexibility of a self
drive trip using a 4WD vehicle( Nissan
single cab or similar) but is a relatively
easy drive, using mainly tar roads and some
off road 4WD drives. The vehicle is not
equipped as there is no camping, overnight
stops are in chalets and permanent tents.
The hire vehicle is covered with Super CDW
and Theft waiver.
Day 1
Khama Rhino Sanctuary – Serowe - Botswana
Approx 6 hours drive
Pick up hired car in Johannesburg and self
drive to Serowe where you will be staying at
Khama Rhino Sanctuary for one night (approx
20km past Serowe). Overnight in basic, yet
comfortable A-frame chalets with self
catering facilites, There is also a
restaurant and bar on site.
The Khama rhino sanctuary trust is a
community based wildlife project,
established in 1992 to assist in saving the
vanishing white rhino. The sanctuary lies
25km north of the historic Serowe on the
Serowe Orapa road. Serowe, one of the
largest traditional villages in Africa, is
the birthplace of Botswana’s first
president, the late sir Seretse Khama. To
date 14 white rhinos and 2 black rhinos have
been Tran located into the sanctuary. The
sanctuary is also home to other wildlife
Day 2
Meno a Kwena – Makgadigadi national park –
Botswana
Approx 6 hours drive.
Dinner, bed & breakfast
Self-drive from Serowe to Meno a Kwena, On
arrival at Meno a Kwena you ‘will stay in
Large Kenyan’ style tents with beds and
bedding, each tent has its own private
bucket shower and toilet adjacent to the
tent. The Lodge has a marvellous location
overlooking a waterhole frequented by
zebras, elephants and wilderbeests. The
Magadikgadi Pans NP is located 40km away and
can be visited either on the way to the camp
or the following morning. During your stay
at Meno a Kwena all meals are included,
Meno a Kwena, meaning the tooth of the
crocodile is situated on the Makgadigadi
pans; each tent is ideally situated to allow
the guests to take in the breathtaking view
over the pans. There is also a water hole in
front of the lodge where game comes to
drink.
Day 3
Crocodile
camp – Maun – Botswana
Approx 1 ˝ hours drive
Bed & Breakfast
Self drive from Meno a Kwena to Maun, On
arrival in Maun you will spend one night at
crocodile camp in a standard en-suite
chalet. Breakfast is included.
Crocodile camp is situated on the banks of
the Thamalakane River and hosts an abundance
of birdlife with the occasional hippo or
crocodile visitor. One can enjoy the scenery
of the river while having a drink at the
bar.
Day 4 and 5
Santawani lodge – Nr Moremi NP – Botswana
Approx 3 hours drive
All meals, cash bar
After a relaxing night in Maun you will
self-drive to Santawani Lodge.
Overnight accommodation is in basic, yet
comfortable en suite chalets. During your
stay at Santawani lodge all meals and hot
beverages are included and they provide a
‘escort guide’ to accompany you on your game
drives to show you the area.
Santawani lodge is situated in a game rich
private concession near the border of the
moremi game reserve. The lodge is open to
the soothing African breezes, the bar and
restaurant overlooks a waterhole.
Day 6
Crocodile camp – Maun – Botswana
Approx 3 hours drive
Bed & Breakfast
After a relaxing two night stay at Santawani
Lodge you will self-drive back to Maun where
you will spend another night at Crocodile
Camp. Arrange food supplies for the next 2
days at the shops in Maun.
Breakfast is included
Crocodile camp is situated on the banks of
the Thamalakane River and hosts an abundance

crocodile visitor. One can enjoy the scenery
of the river while having a drink at the
bar.

Day 7 and 8
Guma camp, Western Okavango
Self catering
Approx 4 hours drive
After a relaxing night at Crocodile Camp in
Maun you will self-drive on the tar road via
Sehitwa , heading north. Guma camp is
located just past the village of Etsa 13 ,
turning off onto a 4WD track,. On arrival at
Guma camp you will be staying in a large
walk in dome tent, Each tent has its own
bathroom built behind it. The tents are set
on shaded stands overlooking the lagoon,
they are furnished with beds and linen is
provided.
During your stay at Guma camp you will go on
a full day mokoro trip.
Guma lagoon camp is situated on the
northwestern side of the Okavango delta on
the banks of the Guma lagoon. It is mainly a
self-catering camp although meals can be
arranged if pre booked in advance. There is
a fully equipped kitchen and freezing
facilities available for guests.
Day 9 and 10
Mazambala lodge – Caprivi Strip, Namibia
Bed & breakfast
Approx 5 hours drive
Drive north through the border at Mohembo
into Namibia and onto the Caprivi Strip.
On arrival at Mazambala lodge from Guma
lagoon camp you will be staying in a small
thatched en-suite chalet. Breakfast is
included. There is a restaurant where meals
can be bought,
Mazambala lodge is situated on the Caprivi
Strip and consists of a bar and dinning
area. The lodge is rustic and simple, and
there is no electricity so candles and
torches are provided. Mazambala is close to
Day 11 and 12
Garden Lodge – Kasane – Botswana
Dinner, bed & Breakfast.
Approx 3 hours drive
After a two-night stay at Mazambala lodge on
the Caprivi Strip you will self-drive to
Kasane where you will spend two nights at
the Garden Lodge. A friendly Lodge situated
on the banks of the Chobe river with
comfortable ensjuite rooms. During your stay
at the Garden Lodge dinner and breakfast are
included.

The garden lodge is situated on the banks of
the Chobe River and is an ideal base to
explore Chobe NP, which is approx 20 mins
drive away.
Boat trips can be booked for sunset cruises.
Day 13
The Marang Hotel – Francistown – Botswana
Room only
Approx 5 hours drive
After a relaxing two-night stay at Garden
Lodge you will self-drive to Francistown,.
On arrival in Francistown you will be
staying at the Marang hotel in a double
room. All meals and drinks are excluded but
there is a restaurant and bar on site,
The Marang hotel is situated on the banks of
the Tati River, 5km out of Francistown.
